Bloom

A Finder alternative with multi-pane browsing, fast file search, and advanced renaming.

Bloom is a macOS file manager that works alongside Finder, adding multi-pane browsing, quick navigation, and file tools to a familiar interface. It is designed for people who frequently search, move, rename, and organize files.

Navigate and find files

  • Arrange multiple panes and save workspaces for different folder layouts. Synchronized browsing can show a folder selected in one pane in another pane.
  • Open a system-wide Go to Folder and search panel, or press Command-F in a folder to search in place. Searches support regular expressions (patterns for matching filenames), with an option for plain-text matching.
  • Use the compact Portal window for quick folder access or as a temporary file-transfer area.

Work with files and folders

  • Batch-rename files with insert, replace, remove, and regular-expression rules.
  • Browse archives without extracting them, including previews of supported entries.
  • Convert, rotate, and optimize images; inspect disk usage with a treemap; and organize files by kind or date.
  • Queue file operations, monitor their progress, and use Footprints to review and undo recorded actions.
  • Manage files in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive, as well as macOS file tags.

Customize your workflow

Bloom supports configurable keyboard shortcuts, custom workspace colors, sidebar icons, and folder view settings. It can open the current folder in a chosen Terminal app and supports AppleScript, shell-script toolbar actions, and custom inspector scripts.

Compatibility and limitations

Bloom requires macOS 14 or later and supports Apple silicon and Intel Macs. The developer describes it as an offline app that does not collect personal data. Full Disk Access is required to read macOS tags. Bloom can handle many “Reveal in Finder” requests when configured as the default file viewer, but Finder still manages the desktop, and some cloud-storage context-menu actions remain Finder-only.

A 7-day free trial is available. A personal license costs $16 once, includes future updates, and can be activated on up to three devices.
