Spotifast
A lightweight, open-source Spotify player with Spotify Connect, custom themes, and Winamp-style controls.
Spotifast is a lightweight, open-source Spotify desktop client for macOS, built in Rust without an embedded browser. It brings Spotify library browsing, local music playback, and Spotify Connect controls into one app, with a customizable interface and optional retro-style player.
Listen and manage your Spotify library
- Browse Liked Songs, playlists, albums, artists, podcasts, and saved episodes, or search Spotify's catalogue.
- Create and edit playlists, manage the play queue, and view synced lyrics when available.
- Play on your Mac or use Spotify Connect to control playback on supported speakers, phones, and other devices.
- Use keyboard shortcuts, media keys, and menu-bar controls without keeping the main window open.
Themes, visualizers, and Mac controls
Spotifast supports light, dark, system-matched, and custom color themes. Its Winamp-style mini player accepts classic skins and includes an equalizer, while the MilkDrop visualizer displays music-reactive animations in a separate window or full screen. On MacBooks with a display notch, an optional Now Playing widget provides playback controls and a seek bar.
Before you install
Spotifast itself is free and MIT-licensed, but Spotify Premium is required to play music or control playback on other devices. Spotify Free accounts can browse and search only. Setup uses Spotify's sign-in pages and a separate authorization for local playback.
The app supports macOS 11 or later on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, with downloads from the official site and installation through Homebrew. Spotify Lossless, video podcasts, and social features are not supported. Spotifast is unofficial and unaffiliated with Spotify, so changes to Spotify's services may disrupt some features. The developer states that the app collects no telemetry and stores Spotify credentials in macOS Keychain.
