Spatial is a visual note-taking app for macOS that lets you arrange ideas, reference material and written notes on a flexible canvas instead of keeping everything in conventional lists or folders. It brings text, images, video and saved websites into the same space, making it particularly suited to visual research and inspiration boards.

Notes and references in one space

• Two note formats: Resizable sticky notes for quick thoughts and longer Markdown-based pages for substantial writing. Notes can be exported as Markdown files.
• Visual media: Place images, GIFs and video clips alongside notes to build reference collections and moodboards.
• Web clips: Save website snapshots, import bookmarks and media from X, or bring in saved Pinterest pins. Pinterest video pins are imported as cover images rather than playable videos.
• Stacks: Group related items on the canvas without creating a rigid folder hierarchy.
• Quick capture: Open a scratch pad with Option–Space; its keyboard shortcut can be customized.

Search, syncing and AI connections

Spatial includes on-device semantic search across notes, images and videos, allowing searches based on meaning rather than exact wording. A local Model Context Protocol (MCP) server can connect content to supported assistants such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Codex for reading boards and creating items. The developer also offers optional iCloud syncing for Pro users.

Things to know

Spatial requires macOS 15.6 or later and is distributed through the Mac App Store. The developer's format list does not currently include PDF importing or Microsoft Word documents. Content is stored locally by default, while the privacy policy discloses the use of Mixpanel for app-usage analytics. The app is free to download, with paid Pro subscriptions and a lifetime purchase option. The developer website and US App Store display different prices, so check the purchase screen for the applicable amount.
