Tilde

A native Finder alternative with flexible split views and custom file organization.

Tilde is a native macOS file manager designed as an alternative to Finder. It works with the files and folders already on your Mac rather than requiring you to import them into a separate library. Its main strengths are flexible multi-pane browsing, project-specific sidebars, and custom ways to organize files.

Work across folders

  • Split views: Divide one window into multiple panes, each with its own tabs, to compare folders and move files between locations.
  • Command palette: Find files, jump to folders, and run file actions from the keyboard.
  • Sidebar Spaces: Keep separate sidebars for different projects, with custom groups and overviews containing saved views and links.

Organize without moving everything

  • Custom properties: Add fields such as Status or Priority, then filter, sort, and group files. Save different views of the same folder.
  • Live Groups: Automatically show matching items as files and their properties change.
  • Pinned and related items: Keep important folders within easy reach without duplicating them, and link folders to related locations or URLs.
  • Additional tools: Folder nicknames, image operations, and built-in Markdown editing.

Requirements and licence

Tilde requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later on an Apple silicon Mac; Intel Macs are not supported. It can run alongside Finder, with changes to existing files visible in both. According to its privacy policy, file contents, folder listings, and file-search history are not sent to its licensing services during normal use.

The seven-day trial needs no credit card. A $29.99 one-time licence covers two Macs for one person, with lifetime access to covered versions and one year of updates. Buying access to newer updates afterward is optional. Activation and periodic licence checks use an internet connection, though an activated paid copy can continue working offline if a routine check fails.
